Appointment Craig Carbutt

Newly appointed Rural Outreach Officer, Craig Carbutt, will be managing the Cape Craft and Design Institute’s representatives in the five regions of the Western Cape – West Coast, Winelands, Central Karoo, Overberg and Eden.  With this appointment the CCDI is spreading its wings and will be launching new initiatives to reach and touch crafters in rural areas.  Craig has a Fine Arts degree, but has tried his hand at a variety of trades – from film making to writing, retailing and hand painting and selling fabrics.  His most recent experience, however, has been in Adult Education at Project Literacy.

The CCDI was established in 2001 to promote and support the growth of craft as a sustainable economic sector in the Western Cape. Craft production is an entry point into the mainstream economy for a large number of poor South Africans, and an institute such as the CCDI is able to assist through product support; enterprise development; business, marketing and export training; assistance with accessing appropriate markets; and sourcing materials.
