AMTS FABLAB LIGHTS COMPETITION - RESULTS

Thirty-seven entries were received, from FabLabs in Tswane, Shoshonguwe, Cape Town and Bloemfontein. The Cape Town FabLab carried off all the honours and was also awarded the overall FabLab prize.

The first three entries came from Cape Town; Paul Kleinschmidt (see pic LEFT) won R15000 for his imaginative 7-fold variation on a mood light; Gillaume du Toit took second place and R10000 for two delicate hanging lights with laser-cut fins in black and in white; and Donald Philp won R5000 for an elegant portable light displayed on a battery charger. Honarary mention went to Chris Jones and Jim Chiota who collaborated in the Cape FabLab to make Dorothy, a fanciful bead-and-wire torso, shown in a previous newsletter.

Most of the lights were on display during the Design Indaba, either on the AMTS FabLab stand, or on the CCDI stand (see pic ABOVE).
